“Many of the Disciples dropped their nets to follow Jesus; We can hardly get men to drop their remotes to follow him today.” – Pastor Tony Evans
Matthew 4:18-22 NKJV18 And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. 19 Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” 20 They immediately left their nets and followed Him. 21 Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James theson of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. He called them, 22 and immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him.
I’ve thought about these scriptures many times over the years, picturing these men, going about their lives, when a complete stranger, comes up to them and tells them to stop what they are doing and follow Him. The reason I think about this so much is that I wonder what I would have done in the same situation.
Now I’m not talking about someone witnessing to me and me accepting Christ, which happened in my freshman year of college. No, I’m talking about truly walking away from everything and everyone you know, to follow someone you just met, without any idea of where you will be going next.
Now in some way, when we do accept Christ as our personal, Lord and Savior, we do this on a spiritual level, but to do so in an absolute physical way, says a lot. At least in my mind. Think about it; today, right now, could you walk away from your job, family, friends, home, lifestyle to follow Christ, if He asked?

What does it truly mean to commit your life to Christ?
I hate to admit that I’m ashamed that I still feel that I would hesitate, if just for a minute, if Jesus asked me to give up all that I currently have to go where He leads. In fact, there are times when I struggle when Christ says to leave anger or hate or fear or doubt behind and follow Him to forgiving, giving and loving unconditionally.
Today, I am awfully thankful for God’s forgiveness, His mercy and His grace. That despite my hesitancies, doubts and fears, He still loves me and wants me for Himself.
So what does it truly mean for YOU to commit your life to Christ?
Be thankful. Be grateful. Always.
