The Power Of Preaching The Gospel

Our Father, who is in Heaven. We honor you today for you are Holy, Righteous and Sovereign. It is because of you and for you that we live. We only ask for more of you today. For we know that in you, we have all and can be all, that we and this world needs. We truly have the victory today and every day, because you are with us. Help us to live Father in the way that is pleasing to you. A life of faith, hope, joy and love for you and others. We ask forgiveness for living selfishly and fearfully. And pray that as you pour out your blessing of your Spirit to us, we in turn, pass it through to others. Thank you Lord for the opportunity to love and to serve. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

“As I was returning to earth, I realized that I was a servant – not a celebrity. So I am here as God’s servant on planet Earth to share what I have experienced that others might know the glory of God.” — Colonel James Irwin

I often wonder what this world would be like if we all had a servant’s attitude and a servant’s heart?

An example can be found in the Word of God in Acts 2. After the Holy Spirit had filled those who patiently waited in the Upper Room as Jesus had instructed, they then preached the Gospel of Jesus to all the people. In verses 37-41, it was stated that:

37 Peter’s words pierced their hearts, and they said to him and to the other apostles, “Brothers, what should we do?” 38 Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 This promise is to you, and to your children, and even to the Gentiles—all who have been called by the Lord our God.” 40 Then Peter continued preaching for a long time, strongly urging all his listeners, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation!” 41 Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day—about 3,000 in all.

It was after they had heard the Truth preached to them, then and only then did a change take place. Not only in their hearts, but also in their actions. As can be seen in verses 42 -47, those who had received the understanding of the promise of God through Jesus and confirmation by the Holy Spirit, began to think more of others than themselves.

42 All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer. 43 A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders. 44 And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. 45 They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need. 46 They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity— 47 all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.

Until God’s Word breaks down that stone wall of selfishness in our hearts, we will never be able to think, care or serve anyone else’s needs but our own.

One other thing I feel is worth mentioning here is that the sermon that was preached that day, that resulted in thousands turning to Christ, and thousands giving to others in need, was not about church membership or outreach programs or church fiscal responsibility, etc. No, it was simply that Jesus IS who He said He was. The Son of God, the Savior of All Mankind, the Redeemer, the Messiah and our Savior.

Acts 2:36 NLT 36 “So let everyone in Israel know for certain that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, to be both Lord and Messiah!”

Hmmm. Makes one wonder or rethink what needs to be preached in our churches today. Just saying.

May you seek more of Christ today than yesterday. Know that you are blessed.
