“I have read Plato and Cicero sayings that are very wise and beautiful; but I never read in either of them: ‘Come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden and I will give thee rest.'” — St. Augustine of Hippo
Matthew 11:28-30 NLT28 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
Our peace and rest, lies in a relationship with Jesus Christ. Our strength and purpose, lies in God’s Word. No where else will we truly find those things we need that will lead us to true victory, spiritual growth and a life that glorifies God.
I guess if our desire is to live only for ourselves, then we don’t need Jesus, or the Bible or God nor His Spirit. We can simply continue seeking rest, peace, joy and satisfaction from a world that isn’t truly meant for us.
“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. And you know the way to where I am going.” – Jesus ( John 14:1-4 NLT)

My brothers and sisters, are you living or surviving? Working harder and harder each day or resting in the peace that only comes from a relationship with Christ? Are you trusting in what you can do or what God is able to do?
We are not called to hide our lives away behind stained-glass windows and wooden pews once or twice a week. No, we are to live in a world that will not care or love us. Our ministry is to live in a way that is not only different, but in demonstration of a joy, a peace, a love, an attitude, that speaks of something and someone greater than us. Someone that has promised through deed and word, to provide all that we need to live victoriously, to be free from that which binds us and limits our ability to be a vessel, full of light and life, to a world of darkness.
Lay your past, present and future worries and burdens at Jesus’ feet. You can’t do anything with them but lug them around and wear yourself out. Give it all to Jesus, for He has overcome it all for you and me.
Be thankful. Be grateful.
