My Might = Frustration God’s Power = Victory…Every Time

The ministry of the Spirit of God strengthens us, too, for the task that He knows lies ahead of us. We cannot survive or complete this task using our own abilities. Like Peter and the apostles, we need God’s empowerment. We may not know what lies ahead, but we do know that God is preparing us for the future He has prepared for us. — David Edwards

My brothers and sisters, here is a portion of a devotional I read a while back that is a reminder for us today.
“God is interested in our heart. For God to be able to do everything He wants to do for us and through us, we must have our heart completely open to Him. When our confidence and trust are in Him and we keep ourselves open to Him by admitting any shortcomings that we need His help in handling instead of trying to hide them, we are positioned to hear from Him and obey.
Satan tries to complicate our life as much as possible to keep us out of close fellowship with God. When we aren’t in close fellowship with God, we don’t hear the instructions He is trying to give us, and we do things according to the way we think they should be done. When we follow our way, often different from the direction God is trying to give us, we complicate our life even more by adding more things to do to the things He intended.” – Dr. Patricia Bailey-Jones
It is very easy to rely on our own strength and efforts to navigate through this life.  The world is constantly setting the bar for us to jump over.  And if we are unable to meet the world’s expectations, we are deemed failures, worthless, etc.
But my brothers and sisters, that is why knowing that the very power of God dwells within you and has established your victory is so important.  This truth and realization must be constantly in the forefront of our minds and in our hearts.  God sets our paths and knows our future. And He will fulfill His plans for our lives if we remain out of the way and allow Him to have free reign in our lives.
Our Heavenly Father has gone through all the trouble to redeem us and give us an opportunity to accept His love and live abundantly in Him.  It really is futile to try to improve on God’s plan for our lives. Our contentment, peace and joy is found in Jesus, not the world.  The Word of God says that only the things we do for Christ will last.  And we can only do those things in and through the power of God’s Spirit for the love of God.
So let the grace, mercy and love of God fix your hearts to desire what God has planned for you.  Nothing else we do will be able to repair the damage that sin did on our hearts and souls, which affects our lives. Jesus did it all, He paid it all.  Let your hearts rest in Him and be confident that God truly knows the plans for you and has made a way for you to fulfill those plans.
May God continue to richly bless you as you trust in Him more and more each day.

What’s Love Got to Do With It? EVERYTHING?

Usually its hard for men to talk about love, being in love, being loved, etc., etc.  Why? Because we’re taught that just isn’t manly or macho, whatever, the heck that means.  But it is true.  Start a conversation about falling in love with the fellas and watch their reaction.

It’s cool. I use to be the same way.  Didn’t hear the words “I Love You” a lot growing up from my father.  No knock here or disrespect, it was just something that wasn’t said.  I wasn’t scarred or anything, because I watched what my dad did for us.  He worked, he disciplined( he was real good at that, LOL), he protected and he taught what he knew.  He shared to my brother and me what he believed a man was all about; being responsible, being accountable for your actions, being honest as much as possible and taking care of those you loved.  It wasn’t necessarily the words, “I love you” that were said, but as they say, actions speaks louder than words.

So where am I going with this?

Whether in action, deeds or words, LOVE has everything to do with our lives.  As men, we may try to hide it, but we can’t fool ourselves all the time.  We look for love in all its forms.  We want to show and give love, of course in our own way, and we get hurt by loving sometimes.  We fight over those things we love.  Wage war over things and people we love.

Love is important to our very existence.  It can set our lives free to be all that we can be, if we are not afraid to embrace it as a way of life. However, that’s for another post, but I just wanted to plant the seed.

I want to share with you the words of a man that wasn’t afraid to tell others he was in love.  In fact, he wrote about it many, many times in what we call the Psalms.  I believe you would agree with me that King David wasn’t a wimp.  He fought lions, bears and a giant.  Yet he didn’t think it was less manly of him to express his love for his God.

Here’s my devotional for you today.

Love begins when the needs of someone else become more important than your own. — Lao Wei

Psalm 63:1-8 NLT O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you.  My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water. 2. I have seen you in your sanctuary and gazed upon your power and glory. 3. Your unfailing love is better than life itself; how I praise you!  4. I will praise you as long as I live, lifting up my hands to you in prayer. 5. You satisfy me more than the richest feast.  I will praise you with songs of joy. 6. I lie awake thinking of you, meditating on you through the night. 7. Because you are my helper, I sing for joy in the shadow of your wings.  8. I cling to you; your strong right hand holds me securely.

What a beautiful love letter to God. Have you ever thought of God in the way or similar to the way that David describes his feelings for Our Heavenly Father?  Are you in love with Him?  As the hours, days, weeks, months and years go by, does the thought or desire to fall in love with God ever cross your mind? We spend most of our lives, time, energy and resources falling in love or loving many, many things and people, but what about God?

For those who have received these devotionals for a while, you probably know that this single topic of loving God, being in love with Him and/or falling in love with Him is a repetitive theme with me.  I ask myself the same questions above as a guide or spiritual mirror to make sure that I realize why I’m here, my purpose in life and why I do what I do.

For many years, I lived for me and for what I could get out of this life.  When Jesus rescued me, He opened my eyes to the love of God that I had never known.  From that moment, I have desired to understand this love.  But I quickly realized that it is beyond my understanding.  God simply loves me and He simply loves you.  Yes, with all our faults, all our messes that we get ourselves into, our disobedience, defiance, unbelief and sin, God still loves us.

When I stopped trying to understand and simply accept His love, I found myself falling in love with Him.  This process never stops, never gets old and is new and stronger moment by moment, when I think about all that God has done, is doing and promises to do.  And the biggest thing is, I don’t deserve any of it.  That is how much He loves me and you.

I can understand why David wrote the things he did.  Despite his accomplishments and his failures, he simply knew that God loved Him more than anything.  God loves you and I just as much.

One thing I have come to realize in my journey is that the bible has become less of a rule-book with a lot of do and don’ts, to a book of love letters from God to His children and from His children to their God.

Maybe you don’t or can’t see it this way, but I encourage you to fall in love with Jesus.  Accept God’s love for you and allow His Spirit to open your eyes and heart.  Then you will find yourself doing, speaking and thinking out of love for God and less out of fear or obligation.  Its a big difference.

May you start your own letter(s) of love to our God who has written love letters to you first.

Show Me The Path Where I Should Walk…

Psalm 25: 4-10, 15NLT 4 Show me the path where I should walk, O Lord; point out the right road for me to follow. 5 Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you. 6 Remember, O Lord, your unfailing love and compassion, which you have shown from long ages past. 7 Forgive the rebellious sins of my youth; look instead through the eyes of your unfailing love, for you are merciful, O Lord. 8 The Lord is good and does what is right; he shows the proper path to those who go astray. 9 He leads the humble in what is right, teaching them his way. 10 The Lord leads with unfailing love and faithfulness all those who keep his covenant and obey his decrees. 15 My eyes are always looking to the Lord for help, for he alone can rescue me from the traps of my enemies.

During these tough and uncertain times, it is imperative that we seek the guidance and leading of the Holy Spirit to make it through the day. Because of the ease of us to give in to our own desires, we must continuously depend on God’s truth and love to stay above and out of the traps the enemy has laid before us to entangle us in sin and despair.

Only on the path that God sets before us will we find peace and eternal hope. My brothers and sisters, we must seek God’s direction in every part of our lives. There is no other true path for us than God’s. He is our only Hope.

I would like to encourage you today to take another look at how you are going about living your life. Is it based on your plans or God’s? Are you trusting in His leading or are you ready to bail out at the first sign that things are not going your way or worst yet, things are going your way, so now you figure that you can take over for God?

It is so easy to get distracted from following God’s plans for our lives. It can happen for a number of reasons. We grow tired at the constant attacks of the enemy. We lack patience because we don’t or can’t see the benefit of following God’s ways. The big one seems to be, we just want to be in control.
But meditate on the scriptures again. The Lord is Good! He is Right and He loves us. He only wants the best for us and the only way for that to happen is for us to totally trust in Him. We must ask for His guidance and direction in all things, then have faith to follow those plans to the very end.
As long as we are on this earth, we will need God’s help. Look to Him for it and nowhere else. For His ways are not our ways, but His ways are right and true and good.

Thank you Father for your will and your ways. You are a loving Father that cares about every little thing that your children face and are going through. Thank you for Jesus who has restored us to you and the Holy Spirit that gives us the strength to desire to continue in your ways. Direct our steps and lead us by your unfailing hands. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Hope – Wait – Seek: A Powerful Receipe To A Victorious Life

Lamentations 3:21-26 NLT21 Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this: 22 The unfailing love of the Lord never ends! By his mercies we have been kept from complete destruction. 23 Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each day. 24 I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!” 25 The Lord is wonderfully good to those who wait for him and seek him. 26 So it is good to wait quietly for salvation from the Lord.
The scriptures gives us a simple recipe for living a victorious life: HOPE in, WAIT for and SEEK Him.. The Lord our God.
We must place our HOPE in God for all things, WAIT patiently for Him to deliver and answer(yes, the truly hard part), and to continually SEEK to know God better and to draw closer to Him as we wait for His direction and continued deliverance.  There are many other things we must continue to do, but I believe that if we can get these 3 down, the power to do the other things that God has created us to do will be released in and through us.
Every day is another day that God is giving us to realize that without Him, we will struggle.  However, every day, God continues to reveal to us, His love, mercy and grace, that with Him, we will be victorious.
I’m so glad that when my eyes and ears were open, I could make the right choice. My prayer is that you will do the same…Choose Christ.

If Only I Had A Little More Faith, I Could…..

Remember: we can approach the future with confidence because we know the end from the beginning — the mustard seed wins the day.  — Tom Sine

Matthew 17:19-20 NLT Afterward the disciples asked Jesus privately, “Why couldn’t we cast out that demon?”
20 “You don’t have enough faith,” Jesus told them. “I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.
Unfortunately I must admit that I often times hear the Holy Spirit telling me these same words in too many situations I face. Can you imagine having that type of faith?  Maybe some of you do?  Praise be unto God.  But I have to admit that in some areas of my life, I struggle with this issue:  I have faith that God can do all things, but that He will not do it for me or through me.  Am I the only one that has this problem?
Did you know that a mustard seed is only about 1 to 2 mm in diameter, but under the right conditions and soil, can grow to a shrub of about 10-12 feet?!
Jesus used the mustard seed as an analogy of the type of faith that we need to have.  He is telling us that it really doesn’t take much for us to have faith in God to do the Will of God, but faith in Him is a must.  And its not faith in ourselves or our abilities, but faith in the ability of God to use us for His purposes.  And for me, that is the key.  Faith in God for His Will in my life and not putting faith in the life of my will.
Take another look at the scripture above. The disciples ask Jesus, “Why couldn’t WE cast out that demon?”  That is so subtle, that I’ve missed it for years. “WE” can not accomplish anything for God on our own or in our own power and strength.  But if we have faith in God, we can truly do all things through Christ.  Not things to make ourselves comfortable and happy, but to do the Will of God.
Jesus is saying, if we have faith, as small as the smallest seed, with the sole purpose of doing God’s Will, our faith will grow so mightily, that we will be the vessels of the very power of God. For that seed to grow, it must be in the right soil and under the right conditions.  To me this means that our hearts and lives must be pure, humbled and set apart from the world.  We must be committed to the Word of God to fulfill the Will of God in our lives.
Its easy to want God’s power for our own purposes and desires.  Yes, we desire to be mighty men and women of God, but is it really for God’s Kingdom or for our resume building?  I ask myself this often, because I know how easy it is for the enemy to lie and distract.
Matthew 7: 21-23 comes to mind when I think about how easy it can be in doing God’s work, but with the wrong motives or without the power of God’s love as the source of what we do.
“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’
A heavy message, but something I know I needed to be reminded of.  Its not my will I should be living for, but my Heavenly Father’s Will.  When my heart is set on doing His Will, I then can have the faith to accomplish His Will.
May the Spirit of God comfort you today and continue to remove all spots and wrinkles from our lives in preparation for Christ’s return for His bride.

The Hope for the World: Jesus

[Jesus said] ‘I am the resurrection and the life … Do you believe this?’ This is a canyon question which makes sense only during an all-night vigil or in the stillness of smoke-filled waiting rooms. A question that makes sense when all of our props, crutches, and costumes are taken away. For then we must face ourselves as we really are: rudderless humans tail-spinning toward disaster. And we are forced to see him for what he claims to be: our only hope.  — Max Lucado

Hebrews 3:6 NLT But Christ, as the Son, is in charge of God’s entire house. And we are God’s house, if we keep our courage and remain confident in our hope in Christ.

This quote may be a little dated, but the meaning behind it is eternally true.  Jesus is our only hope.  Hope for what you may ask?  Is it hope for a better life, for our dreams to come true? Hope for prosperity, power and fame?  Our simply hope that our lives turn out the way we want them to?  Just what are we hoping for?

I often ask myself this question from time to time and I always come back to what I believe with all my heart that really matters; Hope that God will say to me,  ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’

Now I realize that some are sitting right in the middle of your storm, test or trial and these words don’t seem to pierce the pain, hurt or despair that you may be feeling.  But can I tell you that if you cannot put your hope in Jesus, the world surely is not going to be able to fully resolve your current situation.  Oh the world may offer what appears to be a quick fix or solution, but the price is way too high for something so temporary.
Moreover, if viagra effects women remedial measures are not considered by the patients, it enhances their health complications which include depression, stress, boredom or a lifestyle that lacks exercise, coupled with decreased food intake, can be harmful to your child’s health. Our hope in Jesus secures for eternity all of the promises of God.  That if we will just trust, believe, hope and hold on, just a little while longer, we will rest from our labors, our brokenness will be repaired, what we believe we have lost will be restored and what was stolen will be returned, a thousand-fold.  I’m not necessarily or just talking about those physical or natural things that so occupy our thoughts and lives, but the things of God.  You know what I mean:  You can have a mansion on a hill, but not have a loving home.  You can have power, wealth and fame, but still have a heart that’s heavy and lonely.  You can surround yourself with all the material possessions and relationships a person can have, yet still have a spirit of fear, hurt and hopelessness.

As hard as it is right now, we must set our hearts and spirits to something greater and higher than what we are today and where we are today.  We must see ourselves rejoicing in the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus.  We must know that we have been endued with Power from on high. The Power to overcome and be victorious in all things. The Power to speak to our circumstances and command our situations to change for the glory of God to be revealed.

This is the hope that Jesus provides and makes available to us.

The world is in need of hope today.  You may need a little more hope today. Will you put your hope in Jesus?

Revelation 14:12 NLT This means that God’s holy people must endure persecution patiently, obeying his commands and maintaining their faith in Jesus.

I don’t know if you have been paying attention, but it appears today that while everyone and everything is “coming out of the closet” or is acceptable to do, see or have, Believers in Christ are being dismissed, ridiculed and in some places arrested, if not physically attacked.
We are being told that the Doctrine of Jesus Christ is no longer “politically correct” and/or closed-minded and not accepting to everyone. We are accused of being intolerant, non-inclusive, weak-minded, delusional and “just not keeping up with the times.” I have heard that talking about Jesus is for Sunday’s and at church only.  The Gospel has no place at work, in our schools, in our government, etc.  And we wonder why our society is facing the things we are today.
The funny thing is, no where in the Bible did it say that the preaching of the Gospel was widely accepted by society.  Unless the Holy Spirit was prominently involved, the preaching of Jesus was always met with resistance.
Does this reality mean that we are to run back into our safe stain-glassed sanctuaries and be content on Sunday mornings, believing that we are serving God and furthering His Kingdom?  In my humble opinion, I don’t think so.
The Bible states in Acts: After preaching the Good News in Derbe and making many disciples, Paul and Barnabas returned to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch of Pisidia, where they strengthened the believers. They encouraged them to continue in the faith, reminding them that we must suffer many hardships to enter the Kingdom of God. – Acts 14:22-23 NLT

And Peter tells us that: Dear friends, don’t be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you.  Instead, be very glad—for these trials make you partners with Christ in his suffering, so that you will have the wonderful joy of seeing his glory when it is revealed to all the world.  So be happy when you are insulted for being a Christian, for then the glorious Spirit of God rests upon you.  If you suffer, however, it must not be for murder, stealing, making trouble, or prying into other people’s affairs. But it is no shame to suffer for being a Christian. Praise God for the privilege of being called by his name!..”  So if you are suffering in a manner that pleases God, keep on doing what is right, and trust your lives to the God who created you, for he will never fail you. – 1 Peter 4:12-116,19 NLT

As I have commented in several morning devotionals, I can’t blame society, satan, the government, atheists or anyone else for the condition and state of our homes, work-places, schools, communities or even this nation.  I continue to look in the mirror and ask myself, am I doing what Jesus would do?  Am I saying what Jesus would say?  Am I living with the purpose and for the purpose that Jesus lived?
Jesus made a difference in the world that continues today, although that difference has become harder and harder to see.  He suffered greatly so that you and I could sit comfortably in our pews each week and show the world what the church is all about.  Or did He??
No, I think He knew that following Him would not be comfortable.  That the journey to follow Him would be wrought with suffering and persecutions.  Jesus never stopped His ministry to “set up church” and sit.  Neither did His disciples. So why do we feel it shouldn’t be this way?
Now I know I will be accused of bashing the church…yet again, but that is not my point. I’m trying to encourage us, the Church, to be about God’s business, not ours.
I’ll stop here and end with this: Is the Church that Christ is returning for one that has been reduced to Sunday morning services in a comfortable, air-conditioned building or a church filled and operating in the power and might of the Holy Spirit that can and will make a difference in the world today?  A Church that will indeed be persecuted and may have to suffer, but will do so for the glory of God.
Which one are you?

“Lord, Help My Unbelief!”

He said not: |”Thou shalt not be tempted: |Thou shalt not be travailed:|Thou shalt not be afflicted.”|But he said:|”Thou shalt not be overcome.”  — Julian of Norwich

Mark 9:23-24 NKJV 23 Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who  believes.”24 Immediately the father of the child cried out and said  with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”

If we do not or will not believe that we are overcomers, then we will constantly go from one failure to another,  one defeat to the next, instead of from victory to victory.

In addition, our lives and attitudes will drag those around us, down into our valley of despair and self-defeat, instead of our lives lifting each other up to where God wants us to be.

Believe me when I say that I do know that things are tough right now.  Money is tight or in some cases non-existent.  There’s very little hope and practically no security in anything the world has to offer.  The media peddles fear and despair with each program they air.

But my brothers and sisters, I need to tell some and remind others, that our Heavenly Father has prepared us for just a time as this!

We do have the victory!  Not just today over one thing, but everyday over all things.  God doesn’t do things just half way.  He’s not an incomplete God.  The Bible says that God is All-Knowing, All- Powerful and His Presence is everywhere.  Make no mistake, His perfect plan is being played out just as He designed it to.  The difference between walking in God’s perfect plan or walking in defeat is not a failure in God’s plan, but a failure in our believing in God’s plan.

“Lord help my unbelief”, should be our daily prayer.  Because this is where our battle begins and ends. Once we are able to believe in every word that God has given to us, including His Son, Jesus and the Holy Spirit, the sooner we will recognized just how victorious we really are.

Yes, trials will come.  But I believe God is with me.  Yes, storms may rage in my life.  But I believe that God will wrap me in His arms and protect me.  Yes, I will be hurt by someone or something. But I believe that no weapon formed will harm me.  Yes, my life may not be what I want it to be.  But I believe that God knows the plans for me.  To prosper me, not to harm me.

Do you get it?  Do you believe in God or not?  We can’t just believe Him in some things.  To truly be victorious, we must believe Him in all things.  Its a constant, everyday effort and commitment to tell yourself, that you are a Child of the Most High God.  That if God brings you to it, He will get you through it.  That for every test, there is a testimony. And Job said it best: ” Though he slay me, yet will I hope in him;” – Job 13:15 NIV

Believe in God today.  After all, you have nothing to lose but fear, doubt and unbelief. Think of how your life will be without those three things controlling your thoughts and actions.  Amen

Brand New Mercies, Each Day.

We implore the mercy of God, not that He may leave us at peace in our vices, but that He may deliver us from them. — Blaise Pascal

Hebrews 4:15-16 NLT 15 This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the  same testings we do, yet he did not sin. 16 So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God.  There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need  it most.

Oh how I thank God for His brand new mercies each day!  I used to hear the previous generation say, ” If it wasn’t for the grace and mercy of God, I would not know where I would be.”

That statement is true today, at least for me.

But one thing is clear to me: “If it was not for the Lord’s Grace, Mercy and Love, I would not know where I would be.”

Some may remember the lyrics to this song.  There are a couple of versions by various artists, but I like this one by Dorinda Clark-Cole:

If it had not been for the Lord
Who was on my side
I wanna know where I’d be
If it had not been for the Lord
Who was on my side
I wanna know where I’d be

When I think about
All the many times
That I could’ve been cast away
And God’s loving grace
Came to rescue me
And kept me away from all tragedy
Each and every day
As I kneel and pray
And I ask the Lord for one more chance
New mercies that He lets me see
That’s why I can sing all day

Remember the time
That I thought that I
Was just about to loose my mind, yeah
Lost in despair, thought that no one cared
Headed down the road to no where
I can look back and see
Everything God’s done for me
Through dangers seen and unseen
The Lord’s protecting me

(Where would I be)
If He hadn’t kept me
(What would I say)
If He hadn’t showed me
(Where would I go)
If the Lord didn’t tell me

Through all my ups and downs
He lifts me to higher ground

I couldn’t walk, ya’ll
(If it had not been for Him)
I couldn’t talk, ya’ll
(If it had not been for Him)
I couldn’t speak, ya’ll
(If it had not been for Him, for the Lord)
I couldn’t breathe, ya’ll
(If it had not been for Him)
I couldn’t live, ya’ll
(If it had not been for Him)
I woudn’t be, ya’ll
(If it had not been for Him)

I don’t know where I would be

1 Peter 1:23 NLT For you have been born again, but not to a life that will  quickly end. Your new life will last forever because it comes from the eternal,  living word of God
2 Tim 3:16TLB – The whole Bible was given to us by inspiration from God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives.
There are two ways to look at the circumstances and experiences in our lives.  One approach is to be scornful, negative, pessimistic, and cynical.  The other is to accept the things of God and live a happy, principled and well grounded life, based on the Word of God.   However, in order to live this way, we must know what God has said and is saying to us.
God’s Word clearly tells us that those who leave God out of their lives will not have power to endure the things that we all have to face. Nothing will truly satisfy them. Nothing will seem worthwhile. However, those who embrace God and the things of God will produce, multiply, and create things of lasting value for themselves and others.  We will be able to endure.
We must evaluate and measure our lives against the instructions of God.  If you are not happy with your life or producing the right fruit, then you may need to review our “instruction manual.”
Make reading God’s Word as much of a habit as getting that first cup of coffee in the morning or that last look in the mirror before you run out of the house to start your day.  Check to see what God has planned for you today before you venture out into the world.

Father, please protect my family, friends and co-workers.  I pray that you will comfort those families that have suffered loss this year.  Help us, your children, to remember to read your Word daily and to pray always for those that don’t know to do so themselves.  Your Word doesn’t promise that everything will go the way we want them to, but it does say that you will give us strength to endure those times when things don’t go our way.  Thank you Father for your love, grace and mercy.  Help us to do the same for those you have placed in our lives.
In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
