Keep Your Past In The Past… It Does Not Define Your Future

Philippians 3:13 “Forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before.”

Next to having faith and trusting in God for all things, this is probably the next hardest thing to do, at least for me. “Forgetting” means releasing the pain from the memory of the event or situation like you’d remove any poisons from a snake or insect bite. We must allow all those unsettled and unsettling issues that keep holding us in the night and affecting us in the light, to be broken by the power of God! If you are the injured party, forgive those who hurt you. If you did the hurting, forgive yourself – for God does. Allow His transforming power to heal your troubled emotions and cut the cord between you and your past. Only with God’s help and surrender to His power is this accomplished for you and me.

If you’re finished with where you are and you’re ready for where God wants you to go, then kiss the past goodbye.  Its power over your life is now broken!  Stop allowing satan to use those things against you to keep you from walking in your victory in Jesus.  Believe me when I say this is exactly what the enemy is doing to us.

As Moses and the Children of Israel watched Pharaoh’s armies be swallowed up by the Red Sea, the power of their past was also swallowed up and destroyed for all time.  This didn’t mean that they would not have other things to face, but the they were free from the things of the past.  As long as they were looking over there shoulders worrying about what was following them, they could not see what was promised ahead of them.

This is where we are today.  We need to look forward to the blessings that God has promised us. We must Rejoice! The old Pharaoh(s) of our past are dead. The enemies/sins, hold on us has been broken. So we must rise up and go forward in the victory of our Lord and Savior!
